THE SLOVAK TEAM IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC

TUESDAY

The second day on 21st March, 2017 our class 2.O with Slovak team took part in another event of the programme Mobility+. This time we visited a medical resort Janské Lázně. In the morning were Slovak and our students mixed up to 5 groups. We played very exciting "adventure game" and through an interactive method we learnt a lot about history and all interesting places in Janské Lázně. After delicious lunch we had an informative lecture about spa with an official visit of treatment area. Finally we had a great time in a local aquapark.

THURSDAY

We spent with our wonderful Slovak group another lovely day. The journey to Velké Losenice was quite long. Firstly we visited Handmade paper mill where we were acquainted with all the production information and history of the company. After delicious lunch in a nice pizzeria we went to the centre of the spa. They showed us the whole resort, including places where the common visitors usually cannot go. We also took a water sample for our investigation. Finally, we enjoyed a three - hour stay in the aquapark.

FRIDAY

On Friday we started a day with a chemistry lesson at school and we investigated our collection of three water samples. After that Slovak group with Mgr. Milan Jiřišta went out to explore a biotope around Forestry Academy School and a local mineral spring. After lunch both groups went to Hradec Králové where they visited wastewater treatment plant. We had very interesting excursion and we also saw professional investigation of our water samples to compare the differences between school and professional laboratory.

SATURDAY

In the morning we visited the nearby hospital Kuks. It is said that gold was mined here once; the word kuks means "a share in mining". The Kuks area was a part of the Hradiště estates. In 1664, Jan Špork, a general of the Austrian cavalry, bought the estates. In 1684, Count František Antonín Špork, the general´s elder son, became the owner of all Špork estates. At that time, Kuks was known only for its springs which were believed by local people to have medicinal properties. Špork had its waters tested in 1694 by professors at the Prague Medical Faculty. Their judgement was very favourable and so Špork set a very ambitious objective – to change Kuks into a world-famous spa. The construction started around 1695.

Kuks became a highly popular health resort with all sorts of entertainments and a centre of social life that was magnificent.

After delicious lunch in Pension Za Vodou we went to ZOO in DvůrKrálové nad Labem. There was prepared a big surprise for us. We fed the giraffes and then we could hold a python. Finally, we said with the tears in our eyes good bye.

In my opinion, the great atmosphere followed us all week and it contributed to learn new skills and create a new friendship.
